DNA


The DNA is inside the nucleus of the cells of the organisms.The deoxyribonucleic acid is the primary component of the chromosomes and the material of which the genes are formed, essential to transmit the vital information of all the alive beings.

The DNA was discovered by Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins and James Watson.These three scientists were rewarded by his discovery with the Nobel Prize on Medicine or Physiology in 1962.

Just a slight remark about your post: actually what Watson and Crick discovered was the STRUCTURE of DNA - a double helix, as you can see in the picture. The DNA had been discovered in the previous century by the Swiss biologist Friedrich Miescher.
Another interesting thing to notice: Watson and Crick owed much of their discovery to the work of an English scientist, Rosalind Franklin, who died of cancer before she could be awarded the Nobel Prize. Here you may learn something about her:
